Alexandrine’s

Our Gorgeous Alexandrine’s

Hand Raised Alexandinre’s can make loving pet’s although it has been noted that they have a tendency to become “one-person” birds, strongly bonding with their favorite family member. The Alexandrine parakeet is native to East India to Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh in the South, Sri Lanka.

Here at AMK Aviaries we started with 3 unrelated pairs 18 years ago, we have kept a young one from each pair, and then paired up in the following years to outsource as much as possible. We currently have 5 breeding pairs who have been successfully breeding in previous years and should breed again around August/September.

  • Adult Male Alexandrine Parrots display various shades of green all over their bodies, with a black and gold ring around their necks. Female Alexandrine Parrots display is the same however they do not have the ring around their necks. Both male and female have deep rose patches on the top of their wings.
  • When Alexandirne’s are cared for correctly in captivity they can live up to 40 years old.
  • With our Baby Alexandrine’s we also ensure prior to passing them onto their new owners that they have interacted with males, females, and children.

Diet’s & Feeding:

As with all Parrots it is important to feed Alexandrine Parrots a Diet that included’s Pellets, Seed mixture as well as a variety of mixed Fruits & Vegetables. It is important they get a sustainable amount of Fruit & Vegetables because Seed Mix & Pellets do not contain a reasonable amount of Nutrients and it is important they get the correct amount to live a healthy lifestyle.

Here at AMK Aviaries, we feed our Alexandarine’s of a morning their Veta Farm Nutri blend, seed, and their mixed Fruit and Vegetables. Also to ensure they are hydrated we refill their water bowls with our automatic watering system once/twice per day depending on the heat. The fruit and Vegetables we feed them consist of;

  • Oranges
  • Apples
  • Grapes
  • Kiwi Fruit
  • Passion Fruit
  • Paw paw
  • Beans
  • Capsicum
  • Beetroot
  • Corn Cobs
  • Carrots
  • Snow Peas
  • Spinach

To ensure our Alexandrine’s live a happy and healthy lifestyle this is the diet we provide for them and to also ensure their babies are safe and healthy.
