Diets and Feeding:

Considering most macaw owner do not have the access to most foods found in nature, veterinarians generally advise to met their nutritional needs to generally have  a pellet based diet. it is typically recommended that pellets make up about 65 percent of a blue and gold macaw’s diet, though care must be taken to get high-quality pellets. If 65 percent of a macaw’s diet should be high-quality pellets, another 30 percent should be a variety of fruits and vegetables. Though wild macaws feast on seeds and nuts, they contain too much fat to be given in large amounts. Seeds should comprise no more than 5 percent of a macaw’s diet. Every Morning our Blue and Gold Macaw’s get a variety of mixed Fruit and Vegetables along with their Vetafarm Nutri Blend and a top up of their Sun Flower Seeds. We also do pop in a few nuts for our Macaw’s to snack on. we do have here an automatic watering system so all our birds have a shower and their water bowls filled up once or twice a day depending on the heat. The Fruits and Vegetables we feed our Macaw’s consist of:

  • Oranges
